If you are a diligent reader of this blog, you may know I have been looking for a chinese vocabulary book for more than one year. It started when I arrived in Singapore in May 2007 and wanted to
find the equivalent for chinese language of the excellent "WORDS" by F. Gusdorf. To make it short, a vocabulary book by THEME, i.e. sorted by category. Because you do not learn a language from the
letter a down to z. This book had to feature simplified characters, pinyin and english or french translation. This quest led me to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, China of course, Japan,
France of course too. Simply nowhere I could find the precious holy Grail. But then during my stay in Beijing (business trip), I stoped by a bookshop on a beautiful saturday, asked the clerk and
famous chinese customer care service (read this post) makes it. I HAVE FOUND MY VOCABULARY BOOK! At Xinhua bookstore, for less than 30
RMB!
Now, I just have to go through the 800 pages... Gloups...
I took some leaves last month to go back to Canada (Montreal of course...). From June to late August, for some reason - one of them is the annual "Festival du rire de Montréal" -, airfares double
or triple so I decided to try an other airline. Well, so called airline. Ladies and Gents, please welcome CORSAIRFLY.
Attractive fares for the season, around 500euros round-trip compared to AC's or AF's 1000euros. " Let's try it" I told myself. Moreover, It takes off from Orly airport, closer than CDG. And as a
well ads-educated consumer, I kept in mind the airline's TV ad and denied some previous passengers' feedbacks found online...
Furthermore, I made a strategic error. Not flying Air Canada as usual was kind of a deadly sin. But the worst was leave on a beautiful Saturday morning, starting summer holidays by the way. LETHAL
mistake. Jam-packed airport. Besides usual overbooking poilicy, CorsairFly B747-400 was facing a technical failure and as a result, the flight was cancelled. With more than 200 passengers before me
and unaudible annoucements, it was clear to me I would not be among those transfered to evening flight or Air France flight. So I climbed - above luggages and desperate customers - up to the
counter, even behind. The staff told me I was not allowed to be here and would call the security. "Go ahead" I replied.
I just wanted to avoid waiting in line - sorry, in a cattle herd - and lose my day for nothing. So "Sabrina" secured me a seat on the Sunday's flight and awarded me 300 euros.
The following day, the plane was jampacked and took off with a 2-hour delay and like 570 people aboard. Finally, I was on my way to Montreal. 26 hours late.
So CorsairFly? Why not! But on weekdays, neither weekends nor holiday. Be warned!
As mentionned months ago, I decided not to talk about my work, for 2 reasons : 1- it's not the purpose of my blog; 2 - professional confidentiality!
Just wanna tell you my job led me to China for a 3-week suppliers tour and it should just be the first business trip.
Besides, you have no doubt heard of the merge between
SUEZ
and GAZ DE FRANCE. Tomorrow, Monday, July 21is the
official launch of the
SUEZ
ENVIRONMENT group which Degrémont belongs to. There'll be a ceremony at Palais de la Bourse, I hope to check Mr Mallet's hands :) (I already met him in the lift on the fourth floor but I
was so deep into my thoughts and barely replied his " bonjour"... I suck!...)
Oh, new DGT
logo
to be released tomorrow as well, it has been kept secret for weeks. And
SUEZ
ENVIRONMENT will be listed on stock exchange starting Tuesday, July 22.
That's it for work, enough! Short, yes, but you know the reasons!
Last but not least, I found out recently an other "GI" he's working at Degrémont... "Maz"!
I have found out this weekend it has been 5 months already since the last time I have posted something out there. Nothing to say? Nothing to show? Busy working? No time? Laziness? While, I guess a
bit of everything. Meanwhile, I have tried to keep an eye on my fellow friends' blogs, facebook, Xing, LinkedIn profiles and Co.. So let's resume posting!
Enjoy your summer.
